PTO Committees

: Kristi Waldron

Manages, schedules and contracts for all after school programs; ensures program compliance with school safety and protocol requirements.

: Carolee Hazard & Danielle Wood

Create, organize and manage this school-wide, volunteer-intensive event. Scheduled for April 15th, 2010. Volunteers help conduct art and/or science workshops pre-designed for grades K-2 and/or help with overall event organization.

: Darcy Leschly & Heather Goudey

Organizes and manages shuttle services between Encinal and Laurel schools. Requires three people, one for each the Tinsley bus, Newton and City shuttles. For details, click here.

: Elizabeth Katz & Alisa Francis

Organizes, manages, sets-up and works at this weeklong "book extravaganza". Date for this year is 10/4 - 10/9. Offers many volunteer opportunities.

: Joan Solari & Ninette Wong

Develops PTO fundraising partnerships with local businesses, coordinates the Box Tops program and administers and promotes to Laurel and Encinal families.

: Mari Chazen, Amy Kratzer, and Lora Christen

Reaches out locally, nationally and globally. Assists children and families in need, and is also designed to help instill a giving heart in our students; coordinates Backpack/Supply Drive, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Holiday Toy Drive and Pennies for Peace.

Organize and manage the registration and set-up of the numbered carpool system at Laurel.

: Leslie Heller, Bernice van der Meer, Kristy Moesler

Organize, manage and display Classes of the Month, three per month, in the lobby of Laurel.

Works with the school to assess emergency supply needs. Helps create Emergency ID tags and organizes storage and access to supplies.

: Mari Chazen

Provides healthy breakfast snacks to a select group of students before the start of the school day on M, W and F. Missy Pimental coordinates the program and provides other snacks on T and Th.

: Robin Buckley

Work with staff, teachers, and other PTO committees to find new opportunities for environmental education programs, school initiatives, and green practices; maintain existing programs such as the zero waste lunch composting and recycling awareness.

: Betsy Baum

Organizes the first event-based fundraiser of the year. Potluck dinner for the entire school, designed to be a community event for the whole family.

: Jan Penagos

Works with Mrs. Noon's and Ms. Herzlinger's Art Classes by organizing volunteers per class. Organizes, sets up and takes down (via committee of art class volunteers) the weeklong Fine Arts Festival in the spring.

: Sheila Jimenez

Help our office staff with required registration materials in the fall; sort and alphabetize the forms; make photocopies and collate mailings; and generally help out when needed during the first few busy weeks of school. Throughout the year, periodically answer the phone during staff meetings or parties.

Makes signs/banners/posters to post at and around school to promote various PTO activities.

: Mary Sapountzis

Organizes and communicates volunteer activities and parent-involved events of the classroom. Acts as liaison among the teacher, the parents and the PTO.

Plans and organizes a holiday boutique of home-baked goods, craft items, holiday plants, etc. All proceeds benefit the PTO. Held on the day of the Winter Sing. Date for 2009 is Friday, December 11.

: April Buhl, Bita Arabian

Provides "hospitality" to community events involving parents and community. Main events are Back to School Coffee, fall and spring General PTO Meetings and the Volunteer Tea.

: Rebecca Wang, Pam Fernandes

Coordinates the hot lunch program: works closely with vendor to provide hot lunch and maintain online ordering website; recruits parent volunteers to distribute lunches to all students on a daily basis.

: Mary Sapountzis

Coordinates (with the teachers) a fall art-activity PTO fundraiser. Students' artwork is available for production on multiple household items, including note-cards, pot holders, mugs, mouse pads, etc...

: Jen Nelson

Manages, orders and sells Laurel Logowear, including t-shirts, shorts, bags, etc.. Sets up sales venues at main events e.g. Back to School Coffee, Laurel Potluck, Holiday Boutique.

: Kristin Brosamer

Coordinates Laurel Library volunteer master schedule, communicates the librarian's policies and procedures, and recruits and trains Classroom Library Liaisons to manage schedule conflicts.

Organize and arrange dates for professional photography company to come to Laurel for school pictures. Recruit volunteers for photo days to help with managing the students.

: Christine Goodin

Matches volunteers with 2nd graders for one-on-one reading one time per week, for an hour maximum. Provides training to volunteers.

: Open

Plans and organizes the last all-school event of the year. Works with Mary Beckstrom to arrange the all-student sing, which includes a send-off to departing 2nd graders.

: Stephanie Heller

Sponsor a Book promotes and facilitates the adoption of new books for the Laurel library. Help promote books to be sponsored, which offer a great way to honor friends and family while supporting our library.

: Kristin Seuell, Suzanne Portugal

Hosts various events and provides gifts of appreciation throughout the year to help honor Laurel teachers, aides and administration staff for all that they do to educate and nurture our children. For more information, click here.
