Laurel’s Annual Art & Science Fair

YOU’RE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR CHILD’S FAVORITE EVENT OF THE YEAR.

When: Wednesday, April 26, 2006, 12:00 to 2:45 p.m.

What: This is a great ONE TIME EVENT for Moms, Dads, Working Parents, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents,…Anyone interested in chemistry, music, biology, art, physics, dance, math, drama, computing or spending a wonderful long lunch hour having fun with your child and others. Help lead one of the prepared workshops, complete with detailed guidelines, or create your own workshop from scratch. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! You do not need to be another Renoir or a rocket scientist. Just be enthusiastic about the subject matter and the kids will be, too!

See the volunteer flyer for all the details. Print out the flyer and return it to the office, or reply via email to your grade level coordinator. We also have the list of proposed Kindergarten workshops and the list of proposed first and second-grade workshops.

PTO Nominations Requested

If you, or anyone you know, are interested in working with a dedicated group of parents to make key decisions about Laurel, then we hope you will consider The Laurel School PTO Executive Board. Currently we are seeking candidates for several PTO officer positions for the 2006-07 school year. The only qualifications you need are a “can-do” attitude, and a willingness to provide leadership for Laurel.

The following positions of the Executive Board are open:

  • VICE PRESIDENT: Assists the President. Represents the Laurel PTO on our District PTO council; works with the newsletter coordinator to publish the weekly newsletter; 2 year term (becomes President the following year).

  • FINANCIAL SECRETARY: Works closely with the Treasurer in keeping records of income, receipts, and disbursements; 2 year term (becomes Treasurer the following year).

  • RECORDING SECRETARY: Responsible for recording the minutes of the monthly Executive Board Meetings and the PTO General Meetings.

  • CORRESPONDING SECRETARY: Responsible for incoming and outgoing correspondence of the PTO.

  • HISTORIAN: Takes photos and keeps a record of student and school activities for the year. Calculates approximate school volunteer hours.

  • AUDITOR: Audits PTO financial records twice during the school year.

  • HEAD ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR: Solicits room parents for each homeroom. Prepares and conducts head room parent training. Coordinates information between the head room parents and the PTO Executive Board.


Consider nominating yourself or another individual. If you, or someone you know, are interested in serving Laurel School, please use this form to submit your nomination to the nominating committee by February 16, 2006. After School Hoops

One-on-One Basketball will be running another exciting session of After School Hoops on Mondays starting in February. This 8-week clinic will focus on basketball fundamentals taught by skilled instructors. Classes will feature skill work, games, and contests. Rummage Sale LE Bucks

Come to the Laurel/Encinal Rummage Sale Bucks Pre-Sale on Friday, February 3, 2:45 to 5:30 p.m. This event is open ONLY to those with LE Bucks to spend. Please complete the Rummage Sale LE Bucks Order Form and return it to the Laurel Office before January 27. LE Rummage Sale Bucks are NOT redeemable for cash and will be accepted only during the 2006 Laurel/Encinal Rummage sale on February 3 and 4.

Laurel/Encinal Rummage Sale

The Laurel/Encinal Annual PTO Rummage Sale will be held on Saturday, February 4, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Laurel School Multipurpose Room. Please donate gently used toys, books, sports equipment, clothes, shoes, strollers, household items, and other items in excellent condition. Drop them off at the Arbor door of the Laurel Multi. Then come and shop at the sale for amazing bargains! Your in-kind donations are tax-deductible, and all profits go to support Laurel and Encinal PTO programs.
