Join the PTO
School has begun, and we need your support to
make this another great year of learning for our
children! We encourage every family to join the PTO
Team for the 2006-2007 school year.
The level of quality education that Laurel and Encinal
families have come to expect is a direct result of this
annual fund raising drive. Look at our list of PTO Accomplishments to see what we were
able to do last year, thanks to the generous support
of our PTO Members.
Our theme this year is Building a Winning Team,
which describes the PTO’s ultimate goal — to help
our schools provide an all-star educational
experience for our kids.
Please print out the membership form and decide
today how strong your support for learning can be!

This is an "extra" email newsletter we are sending
this week, to inform you of a few important
things that can't wait until Friday.
I want to urge you to review the Drop-off and Pick-up
Procedures, which explain the drop-off and pick-
up locations, traffic flow, parking rules, and
everything else you need to know to get your child
to and from school safely. We have started Drive-
Through Drop-off in the mornings, and PTO parents
(look for the orange vests) will join me in helping kids
out of cars and making sure they know how to get to
their classrooms. We also have Laurel teachers
running Car/Carpool Pick-up in front of the school
this week, although beginning on Wednesday,
September 6, you will not be able to use the Carpool
Pick-up line without a Car/Carpool Number. Make
sure you submit your Car/Carpool Pick-up form by Friday,
September 1, so you have your number in time.
If you are not using the drive-through/carpool lines,
you should park and walk in to the school. You can
park in the school parking lot or along Ringwood, but
do not park on Edge Road (especially in front of the
gate to the kindergarten yard), in staff parking
spaces, or along the curb in the school driveway.
When you pick up your child at the Second-Grade
Arbor, please move quickly away from the Arbor area
in order to minimize confusion for the teachers
monitoring pick-up. Also, please do not walk through
the crowded car pick-up area in front of the office.
Because we have so many children coming and going
from Laurel School this year, I would like to
encourage you to try biking or walking to school.
Look for more information about our new program in
the article below.
Also, please fill out and turn in all of the forms that
were sent home with your child on the first day of
school. We are off to a great start, and can expect
a wonderful year for all of your children!
Thank you,
Nancy Hendry
Laurel School Principal

Walk or Bike to School
|
|
As an addition to our Friday School Spirit Day, EVERY
Friday will be a Walk and Bike to School Day!
Also, consider the Walk Pooling and Bike Pooling
program. We're looking for parents and kids who live
within 1.5 miles of school to begin a walking school
bus, picking up kids along the route to school.
Complete the
Walk + Bike Survey and return to the school
office. For those who have already filled out a
survey - THANKYOU! We're working on it and will
have more details in next week's PTO newsletter.
Please email marcia(at)premierbenefits.com for any additional
info.
Regardless of whether you are part of the pooling
program or not, join in the fun walking and biking to
school with your friends, family and neighbors on
Fridays. It's a great way to kick off the weekend!
