Please plan on attending this year’s first PTO general meeting. Enjoy appetizers before the meeting while chatting with Principal Nancy Hendry, the Laurel teachers, and other parents. The meeting will feature Superintendent Ken Ranella, who will update all of us about the upcoming facility changes and other hot topics. The PTO will provide free babysitting from 6:15 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Laurel library for those families who are unable to get childcare that night at home. Please email PTO Vice President, Gina Watkins, at
ginamark(at)mindspring.com by Friday, September 15, if you plan on using this service. Be sure to send names of your children and their ages.

Medication and Sunscreen
Children should NOT bring any medications, sunscreens or toiletries to school. If your child needs medication or sunscreen during the day, please submit them to the office and notify an office staff person in writing about your child’s specific needs.

Drop-Off Service
The Laurel PTO provides monitoring at the curb in front of the school so you can drop off your child in the morning without searching for parking. Having this service makes a big difference - not only do these volunteers help your child get to class safely, but our waiting time in line drops roughly in half when we have help at the curb! If you use this service, please help us out just once each month by taking a 15-minute turn at the curb. Please contact Marcia Bever - marcia(at)premierbenefits.com and help keep your school moving in the morning!

Berlitz Language Program
Berlitz classes begin the week of September 11 (next week). Registered families can check the lists posted by the office for class times and rooms. Also, look for an email from Berlitz with more info. Please contact Cara Henry at 321-6160, carahenry(at)yahoo.com or Liz Matchett at 364- 6886, lizmatchett(at)yahoo.com if you have any questions.

    Classroom Party Supplies

This year the Environmental Committee is continuing its effort to reduce waste production on campus by encouraging reusing.

Last year we purchased sets of 24 Ikea plates, cutlery and tumblers for each classrooms. This was to decrease paper products consumption that occurs at each party and was a way to encourage kids and parents alike to reuse instead. It was very successful, so this year we are asking Laurel community to use the plastic party supplies again as much as possible.

Most of the sets are located in the Multi at the back of the stage in a cupboard labelled Party Supplies and are organised by grades, but some teachers prefer keeping them in their classrooms. Each set has its own blue translucent container with lid and is labelled with the teacher's name.

There were sign up sheets at Back To School Night for volunteers to wash the party supplies, but also anyone can volunteer, anytime. All that is needed at each party is a volunteer to take them home, wash them and bring them back when convenient.

Thank you for considering signing up to help make Laurel a better place for our children, they learn a lot from what we do.

    Sincerely,
    Emmanuelle Treil
    Environmental Committee Co-Chair
