Road Construction
The Town of Atherton is warning of possible traffic delays along Valparaiso Avenue due to road construction. The project begins this week, and the first stage is anticipated to be completed by late December. Traffic will be allowed along Eastbound (towards El Camino Real) Valparaiso Avenue, but no traffic will be allowed through the intersections of Valparaiso Avenue and the following side streets: Santiago Avenue, Park Lane and Elena Avenue.

Extra Recess Time
The PTO Membership Drive was a huge success this year! Both the Kindergarten and First Grade successfully reached more than 80% participation. It is now time to reward these grade levels with an extended recess.
We will need 4 volunteers to cover the First Grade recess on Tuesday, November 7, from 1:35 to 2 p.m. and 4 volunteers to cover the Kindergarten recess on Friday, November 17 from 10:10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Please consider helping during this short time, and enjoy watching your child on the playground. Contact Traci Brinton at pto_president(at)laurelpto.org as soon as possible if you can help.

    Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Laurel/Encinal Caring and Sharing Thanksgiving Food Drive begins Monday, November 6, and runs through Friday, November 17. Please donate grocery store gift cards, extra canned goods, basic turkey day foods (stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams, etc.) and other essentials such as flour and sugar. Put grocery items in the Giving Box in front of the Laurel or Encinal School Office. You may also donate directly to the food drive online.

Every year, through generous contributions, we are able to help 40 to 50 Laurel and Encinal families with their Thanksgiving meals and other basic food items. Please help us to make this food drive another success and to make a difference in the lives of our Laurel and Encinal families.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, November 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help prepare the boxes for the families in the Laurel multi. Bring the kids along to help out! Please contact Joanne Andrew at joandrew13(at)yahoo.com.
