Laurel PTO Notes

Minimum Days
Please remember that Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, November 13-15, are minimum days at school. Pick up your child promptly at 11:35. There will be no lunch on these days, and afterschool activities are suspended unless you have been notified otherwise. Parent-Teacher conferences will be held in the afternoons. You should have an appointment with your teacher next week, unless you have already held your conference.

Fall Clean-up Day
Fall Clean-up Day will be Saturday, November 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. Meet at First Grade Playground. We will be doing a variety of things from cleaning ivy out of oak trees, trimming overhanging plants, dividing perennials, sprucing up the area outside the office with some new plants, and picking up trash. Kids are welcome! Bring your gardening tools!

KidsArt Fundraiser
The KidsArt Fundraiser products are here and are being distributed this week. If anything is missing or needs to be fixed, please put a note in the FIX-IT envelope in the office or contact Sarah Wright, 328- 3755 or
wright_sarah(at)sbcglobal.net, Carol Kelly, 325-6702 or rolandandcarol(at)yahoo.com. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the KidsArt Fundraiser. Over 1,000 items were ordered, raising over $4,500 for the Laurel PTO.

Recess Volunteers Needed
We still need 2 volunteers to cover the Kindergarten recess on Friday, November 17 from 10:10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Contact: Traci Brinton, pto_president(at)laurelpto.org as soon as possible if you can help.

Rummage Sale
The Rummage Sale Is Coming... If you have any gently used things you are planning on donating, please consider hanging onto them until February. If you just can’t store them any longer, please contact us at: dbtuchman(at)hotmail.com. Please, gently used things only!

    Chevy's Fundraiser

    Please plan to dine in or carry out from Chevy's in Redwood City on Tuesday, November 14, or Wednesday, November 15, for lunch or dinner. Chevy's will donate 25% of sales from our supporters. You must bring our fundraising flyer with you (you should have received a paper copy in your child's blue folder). Contact: Elizabeth Ouren at eharris_ouren(at)yahoo.com.

    Caring and Sharing Food Drive

    The Laurel/Encinal Caring and Sharing Thanksgiving Food Drive runs until Friday, November 17. Please donate grocery store gift cards, canned goods, basic turkey day foods and other essentials such as flour and sugar. Put grocery items in the Giving Box in front of the Laurel or Encinal School Office, or drop grocery store gift cards off inside the office. You may also donate directly to the food drive online.

    Volunteers are needed on Saturday, November 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help prepare the boxes for the families in the Laurel multi. Bring the kids along to help out! Please contact Joanne Andrew at joandrew13(at)yahoo.com.


    Business Alliance Fundraising

    b>Squaw Ticket Vouchers Available
    Squaw Valley adult lift ticket vouchers are available from the PTO for $58 (regular price is $62). Please pre-order by Monday, November 13. Use the Ski Ticket Order Form for all ski tickets - this form is available ONLY online and in the school office. Contact: Andrea Palmer, andrea.palmer(at)laurelpto.org.

    Box Tops Results
    Congratulations to Mrs. Andolina's kindergarten class for winning the contest with 264 box tops! Thank you to everyone who submitted box tops. We broke last year's record and collected over 6500 box tops with 53 bonuses and 165 super box tops! This has raised over $700 for the Laurel and Encinal PTOs! Please continue to save your box tops as we will be collecting again in February. A huge thank you to those who helped count: Sarah Wright, Carol Kelly, Jill Robertson, Kristina Nasr and Nicole Raff.

    MPAEF - Jeanie Ritchie Grants
    MPAEF New Logo

    Congratulations to the 80 District teachers who were recently awarded 2006-2007 Jeanie Ritchie Grants for Innovative Teaching by the MPAEF. The 25 grants totaling $53,820 will benefit students at all four District schools. Together, community support of the MPAEF plus teacher innovation leads to creative learning opportunities for our children! Look for more details at www.mpaef.org.

    Keplers' Story Time with Dashka Slater

    Twas the Night Before Christmas
    The Dancers Repertory Theatre is producing ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Performances will be held on Saturday, December 9, at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 10, at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the new Woodside High School Theater. Group discounts are available for 20 or more tickets. This year's show includes several Laurel school students.
