www.laurelpto.org, and finally submit those receipts!

Art & Science Fair
The Laurel Art & Science Fair Committee still needs coordinators for the first grade and kindergarten classes! The coordinators are the liaisons between the parent volunteers and the committee chair; they ensure that the event runs smoothly for the volunteers. Planning for this wonderful event will start in mid-January, so if you are interested please contact Celeste Baranski at celeste.baranski(at)gmail.com.

LE News
The November issue of LE News is now available. Read about the epidemic that's threatening our children's health, learn about a revolutionary breakthrough in technology, and learn how you can help your school by drinking more coffee. Read the November LE News.

Lost and Found
Please check the lost and found this week, even if you haven't noticed a particular jacket, sweater, lunchbox, etc. has gone missing. Everything left in the Lost and Found as of December 7 will be donated to the One Warm Coat Drive.

Rummage Sale
Saturday, February 3
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Annual Laurel-Encinal Rummage Sale is coming! Please save your gently used things for this great event. We need your help to make this successful and earn $$$ for our schools! Volunteers are needed February 1, 2, and 3.

Menlo Park Activity Guide
The City of Menlo Park Community Services Department is proud to announce the release of the Winter/Spring Activity Guide for classes, programs, and events from January to mid-June 2007. We are offering several new classes for children, teens, and adults including -- Cooking, Capoeria, Silk Painting, Knitting, Language, and Stress Management for Parents -- just to name a few. Resident registration is open now, registration for non-residents begins December 7.

    Caring and Sharing Holiday Toy Drive

    • December 4 through December 15
    • Donation Bins in Front of the School
    The Laurel/Encinal Caring and Sharing 2006 Holiday Toy Drive will benefit Laurel and Encinal families who need help in providing a happy holiday season. Your donation of a toy or gift card will put a smile on the faces of more than 100 children this year! If you would like specific ideas about what is needed, check out the Toy Drive Wish List.

    Drop off all UNWRAPPED gifts and gift wrap supplies in the toy bins at the front of Laurel and Encinal schools from December 4 through December 15. If you prefer to donate cash, you can write a check made payable to either Laurel or Encinal PTO. Designate your donation for the “Holiday Toy Drive”. You can also make a at credit card donation.

    Winter Sing DVD Orders

    It's almost time to watch our little vocal stars belt out those holiday tunes they've been working on! Don't worry about your cameras shots because the memories will be captured in a Winter Sing DVD! (A copy of last year's DVD can be viewed in the Library). Note: The Winter Sing DVD will include both performances.

    Winter Sing DVD orders are due by Wednesday, December 20. The DVDs will be distributed in January.

    The Laurel PTO Winter Sing Plant and Bake Sale will have Starbucks coffee, cider and coffee cake in for sale in the Laurel Library, so come before or after your child's performance in the Winter Sing.     Business Alliance Fundraising

    A big thank you to all the supporters who dined at Chevy's on November 14 and 15. We raised $752 for our schools - great job!

    Holiday Gift Card Deadline - December 7
    Print and submit your order forms (see links below) for gift cards by Thursday, December 7 so they can be delivered to you early the next week. Gift cards make enjoyable and easy gifts for teachers, friends, and family.

    Holiday Shopping Days at Palo Alto Sport & Toy

  • Wednesday - Friday, December 6-8
  • 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • 526 Waverley Street, Palo Alto (1/2 block south of University Avenue)
  • Grab your holiday shopping list and head over to Palo Alto Sport & Toy on one of their Laurel/Encinal shopping days! You can also pick up gifts for the Caring and Sharing holiday toy drive. Make sure to mention Laurel or Encinal School at check out time so we get credit for 10% of your purchase. The money raised will be divided between the PTOs. Store Telephone: 328-8555.

  • November 22 through December 24
  • 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., 7 days a week
  • 955 Woodside Road, Redwood City (west of El Camino)
  • Purchase your holiday trees and wreaths at Honey Bear Trees and earn money for Laurel school. The Laurel and Encinal PTO's will receive 15% of your purchase. Honey Bear has a convenient tree delivery service too. See flyer for details.

    One Warm Coat

    Please donate your gently used coats to the "One Warm Coat" clothing drive being held by the Girl Scout community of Laurel School.

    Brownie troops will be collecting coats OF ALL SIZES during morning drop-off times Tuesday, December 5, through Friday, December 8. We will also accept gently used HOLIDAY clothing for girls and boys, as well as raincoats and boots.

    Collected items will be donated to Haven House in Menlo Park, and the Shelter Network of San Mateo County. Contact: Lynn Cox, LCox99(at)earthlink.net.

    Breakfast with Santa

  • Saturday, December 2, 8 a.m.
  • Burgess Recreation Center, Menlo Park
  • The City of Menlo Park Community Services Department will be hosting the annual "Breakfast With Santa." Activities will include a pancake breakfast, letter writing to Santa, holiday crafts, and visiting with Santa in person. For more information, click here.

    Kepler's Story Time with Chelsea McNeel

  • Sunday, December 3, 11:30 a.m.
  • Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park
  • On this Sunday you may think these are GIANT CARDBOARD BOXES in the Kepler's Children's Department, but they are not. They are castles and ships and treehouses and, well, . . . what do you want them to be?
    **Remember to mention Laurel School at the register and 10% of your purchases comes back to our PTO.**

    Ragazzi Boys Chorus
    The reknowned Ragazzi Boys Chorus, featuring many boys from area schools, will be performing several holiday concerts locally in December. For concert information and ticket sales, please call 650-342- 8785 or visit www.ragazzi.org.

    Kids Helping Kids Cookie Party at Deeelish

  • Saturday, December 2
  • Three sessions - 1:00 p.m., 2:45 p.m., or 4:30p.m.
  • Deeelish, 700 El Camino Real, Menlo Park
  • Cost: $40 first child, $20 each sibling

  • Kids Helping Kids Cookie Party Children will be able to come in to decorate holiday cookies and take them home. All proceeds from the registration donations will go to the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. A representative from the Ronald McDonald House will come speak at each session to express their appreciation and let the participants know how they have helped.     Children's Holiday Luncheon

  • Join the Holbrook-Palmer Park Foundation Atherton Dames for our Annual Children’s Holiday Luncheon featuring a visit and photo with Santa, an enchanting puppet show “The Elves and the Shoe Maker,” a holiday craft and lunch. $20 per guest. Prepaid reservations by November 26. In the spirit of giving, we ask that each child bring an unwrapped gift for donation to a local organization.
