Laurel PTO Notes
Holiday Break
School will be dismissed at 11:35 a.m. on Thursday,
December 21, for our Holiday break. Laurel will
reopen to welcome your children back on January 8,
2007.
Winter Sing DVD
The memories from BOTH Winter Sing performances
have been captured in a Winter Sing DVD. Use the
order form to order your copy by
Wednesday, December 20. The DVDs will be
distributed in January.
Hot Lunch Sign-ups
Mark your calendar - you will be able to order your
child's hot lunch for the second term beginning on
January 8, 2007. The last day to order and make
your payment is January 23. Wednesday's lunch will
continue to alternate between Teriyaki Bowl and
Mexican Day. The second term of hot lunch will run
from February 1 thru May 31. Remember, if your
child is getting hot lunch now you are only signed up
through the end of January, and you will need to
reorder for the second term.
Special Needs Kids
If you are a parent of a student with special needs
and you would like to be in touch with other parents
like you for occasional playdates and support
gatherings, please send an email to Andy Belk at andy.belk(at)laurelpto.org.
One Warm Coat
Brownie Troops 217, 1010, 1375, 1667, and 2515
thank the Laurel Community for your OVERWHELMING
generosity during our One Warm Coat drive at
Laurel. Thanks to you, we collected a total of 303
items, including 30 holiday dresses. Happy Holidays
from the Girl Scouts of Laurel School!
Newsletter Hiatus
The December 15 edition of the Laurel Newsletter will
be the last one this year. Please submit articles and
flyers for
the January 5 newsletter by Tuesday, December 19,
at noon.

Cheeky Monkey Toys
Cheeky Monkey Toys is proud to support Laurel and
Encinal this Holiday Season. They will donate 10% of
all your holiday purchases from now until December
24, 2006, to our schools! Just mention that you are
participating in the Laurel/Encinal PTO Fundraiser and
Cheeky Monkey will take care of the rest. Be sure to
check out their new showroom for the holidays at
704 Santa Cruz Avenue, just 4 doors down from their
regular location, for an expanded collection of
exciting gifts and toys. Cheeky Monkey, at 714
Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Menlo Park, is open
Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday 11
a.m. - 5 p.m. (through December 24).
Northstar/Sierra Tickets
Don't forget to get some discounted Northstar/Sierra
at Tahoe Lift Tickets if you're heading up to Tahoe
over the holiday break. Direct-to-lift tickets are $58

Afterschool Programs for Winter/Spring
|
|
Laurel afterschool programs are being finalized for
winter and spring sessions in 2007. While there may
be additional changes, here is an update of what will
probably happen (with the exception of Berlitz
language, which is managed separately):
Monday: One on One Basketball
Monday: Afterschool Math
Tuesday: Sports 4 Kids
Wednesday: EMFC Fencing
Thursday: Know Chess! (1:30 and 2:30 p.m.)
Friday: Engineering FUNdamentals with Legos
Each program will send out flyers or post information
in this newsletter to let you know to register, the
costs and the dates for the classes.
If you have any questions regarding afterschool
programs prior to that happening, please contact

Join One on One Basketball for After School Hoops®
at Laurel Elementary. Winter clinics for K – 2nd
Grade will be held on Mondays. The Cost is $90 for
the nine week program.

|

Winter Session: 1/5 - 3/23 (no class Jan 19, Feb

Spring Session: 3/30 - 6/8 (no class April 13, May

Laurel Multi
Explore concepts in physics, mechanical and
structural engineering, and architecture while playing
with your favorite LEGO creations! Fee: $180 for 9
sessions.
Please note that this class is only open to NEW
STUDENTS. Enrollment is limited to 40 students for
each session, and we will use a lottery system to
determine enrollment, so pre-register online by
Monday, December 18. We will email
you by Wednesday, December 20 to confirm if your

EMFC Afterschool Fencing Classes

EMFC will continue to offer fencing classes on
Wednesdays during the Winter and Spring for grades

MPAEF - Employment Opportunity

Kepler's Story Time and Personal
Shopper
Sunday, December 10, 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park
The day will open with storytelling for the kids by
Nancy Olexo, the wonderful Librarian from Orion
School. Other Redwood City School librarians will be
on hand as well to recommend their favorite books of
the season. Renowned Children's Book Reviewer,
Sharon Levin, will be your personal book shopper
today, helping you choose the perfect books for the
young people on your gift list. This event benefits
the Redwood City Education Foundation.
**Remember to mention Laurel School at the register
and 10% of your purchases comes back to our
PTO.**
Menlo Atherton Little League
Registration for the 2007 Menlo Atherton Little
League baseball and softball season is now
underway. Go to our web site at www.m-all.org for
eligibility information and to register for this season.
Menlo College Holiday Basketball Clinics
December 22 (8:30 am - 1:00 pm) or December
23 (9:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Menlo College 1000 El Camino Real, Atherton CA
The Menlo College Holiday Clinics will include
outstanding instruction for grades K-8 from Menlo
college coaches and players in the basic
fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, footwork,
defense, and general athletics. The Clinics also
include lunch. Flyers are available in the Laurel

Mindfulness and Parenting
In this 6 week course we will use the practice of
Mindfulness to explore the territory of parenting.
You will get a sense of how applying Mindfulness to
the complex, sometimes overwhelming responsibilities
of daily life with children might actually allow for
grace amidst the chaos. Next course begins in

EMFC Fencing Holiday Camp
