Box Tops for Field Trips
|
Tuesday, October 23, is the deadline for the Fall Box Tops Drive. Remember to turn those Box Tops in to class - just pop those completed Box Top Baggies in your child's blue folder. We'll return the baggies to you after the count so you can begin collecting again for the Winter Drive. Support the kids taking charge this year and help THEM count their own Box Tops and fill in their tally sheets. We can also continue doing our online shopping through the Box Tops Marketplace www.boxtops4education.com/AboutBoxTops/#. Big name vendors like Pottery Barn, Target, GAP, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Lands End, Oriental Trading Company and many more will donate up to 8% when you access their site through the Box Tops Marketplace. For more details and a list of participating products, click here. For questions, contact: Amy Barry at aminibarry(at)hotmail.com.

MPAEF
|
MPAEF Annual Giving Campaign is Underway! The MPAEF supports teaching excellence, technology for learning, and curriculum enrichment in our schools. Did you know that the MPAEF supports the sounds of music? Last year the MPAEF sponsored the purchase of 400 instructional music books, new instruments including guitars and basses, and sound system equipment. The MPAEF also provided funds for the maintenance of the district's 300 violins, cellos, trumpets and other musical instruments (many of which were purchased by the MPAEF). Our goal for 2007-08 is to raise $2.3 million from at least 1000 families to support essential programs and personnel in all four schools. Join your fellow district parents in supporting music education! Every family matters, and every gift matters. Your gift of $50 can help service a musical instrument or your gift of $500 allows 10 children to keep playing! Visit us online at www.mpaef.org for more information or to make your gift early, or bring your donation to school on Tuesday, November 6, our second annual Donation Day!
Please Join Us for an Evening of Science, Song and Slugs!

| Book Fair Blizzard a Huge Success |
The Book Fair Committee would like to thank all the members of the Laurel/Encinal community - parents, teachers, and especially our hard-working volunteers - for making the 2008 Book Fair Blizzard a huge success. We raised over $13,000 to be divided between Laurel and Encinal schools, exceeding our goal. We also gave our teachers and specialists over 840 new books, and delivered over 130 new books to Cesar Chavez Academy.
In addition, through our participation in the "One for Books" campaign, Scholastic will donate over 500 books to charity. We couldn't have done it without all of you - thank you so much for your hard work and generosity.
