Award Nominations for HSA/SSA

Every year our district is lucky enough to have parents, teachers, staff, and community volunteers give of their time, skills, and creativity to our schools. The Honorary Service Awards (HSAs) and the School Service Awards (SSAs) are our way of recognizing those individuals who have contributed in an extraordinary way to our school district.

The HSA Nominating Committee relies heavily on nominations from parents, teachers, and staff to determine who should receive these awards. Please submit your nominations by Friday, April 11, to the Laurel School Office. Either print out and drop off the form or send your nomination(s) via email to Gina Watkins at PTO_President(at)laurelpto.org.

HSA/SSA Nomination Form
District Summer School
The district's state-funded summer school will again be an option for invited students in grades K-7. Parents of eligible children should have received an information letter and application in the mail last week. Bets McKnight will be the Director this year and any questions you have can be addressed by sending an email to: bmcknight(at)mpcsd.org.

The parent meetings are being held:
  • Wednesday, April 2, 8:20 a.m., District Office Boardroom
  • Wednesday, April 2, 7:00 p.m., District Office Boardroom
  • Friday, April 4, 8:30 a.m., Oak Knoll Library
Please bring the completed registration form to the meeting that you attend for guaranteed student placement.
Art & Science Fair
The Laurel Art & Science Fair is coming up soon!  Please complete the sign up form (linked above or sent home with your child on Monday) with your child's workshop preferences and return it to your child's teacher as soon as possible, at the latest by Thursday, April 3.  Any child who does not return a sign up form will be randomly enrolled in workshops.
Paper Bags Needed
The Laurel Art & Science Fair needs your used paper grocery bags.  We're going to try to re-use bags this year, rather than asking Trader Joe's for new bags, which means we need to collect 500 bags! Please save your bags this week (large size, good condition, handles only please) and drop them off in the bins in front of the Laurel Office next week, Monday, March 31  through Wednesday, April 2.  If you are in the car pool drop off lane you can hand your bags to the curbside volunteer.  Contact Susan Robinson at susan(at)thefurmans.org with questions.  Thanks very much for helping out!
New Tree
The kindergarten yard has a new tree!  Many thanks to ISA certified arborist Dave Muffly (238-6911 or arborecology.org) and to Delfino Vian of Vian Tree Care (326-1275) for their help selecting and planting our new Arizona White Oak.  This beautiful little tree should provide shade to the yard for the next century or longer!
LE News
Who are Danny and Bobby,  what should you serve at a Titanic party, and when can you expect to be wowed?  For the latest on everything that's happening in our schools, read the March LE News.
