Spring Fling
A big thanks goes out to everyone who helped make this year's Spring Fling such a terrific event:
  • Diana Holliday and Yiping Zhan organizing the dessert table
  • Rebecca Bloom and Shari Conrad coordinating Lezlie Glare's presentation and memory book
  • MJ Davey, Kim Martin and Elizabeth Shane for selling Laurel & Encinal souvenirs
  • John and Monica Casey with Brownie Troop #2990 for keeping everyone cool with water and Otter pops
  • Richard Vaughan and the Hillview Jazz Band for providing live entertainment
  • And especially our Spring Fling co-Chairs, Denise Kouzoujian and Rebecca Wang
Laurel/Encinal Pancake Breakfast
Special Thanks to all the pancake breakfast volunteers, especially Alison and Jim Lemons who pioneered the event three years ago and Rebecca Wang and Cathy Ricke who co-chaired this year. This is a wonderful community-building event, and the pancakes and all the fixins were delicious!
Read About District Service Award Recipients
District HSA/CSA and Golden Oak Service Award recipients will be honored at a ceremony on Thursday, May 29.  Click here to find out more about these dedicated volunteers who have been serving your kids and their schools.  The reception is on May 29 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Pavilion at Holbrook-Palmer Park.  All families are invited to attend.
Volunteer Celebration
Thank you to the Laurel children and their families who helped celebrate all of Laurel's volunteers this past Tuesday after school.  It was so much fun hearing the children give a big Hip Hip Hooray to Laurel's School Service Award (SSA) and Honorary Service Award (HSA) recipients. A special thank you to Noel Young and Carolee Hazard for organizing this warm volunteer celebration.

With the (enormous) help of our beloved librarian, Lezlie Glare, the PTO is thrilled to be carrying on the tradition of dedicating a book to each of the award recipients and having these books donated to our school library.  Please enjoy the following new books in our library, and if you know some of these volunteers, we know you will appreciate the titles Lezlie carefully picked for each one -- except the book chosen for Lezlie, of course.  She will be receiving a Golden Oak award this year, and, to her surprise, some of the parents in her fan club chose a special book for her.
