usual Thursday dismissal time.
|
| Library Books Are Due! |
Please
look in your car, on your bookshelf, and under the kids' beds for any
missing library books. They were due back in the library on June 5.
|
School Begins 8/25
|
Mark your calendar for the start of next school year, on Monday, August 25. Class assignments for Laurel and Encinal students will be posted the previous Thursday, August 21.
|
| Shuttle Service Announcement |
If you will
have children at both Laurel and Encinal next year, one way to solve the problem
of picking them up in two places at the same time is to sign up for
the Shuttle service.
Dismissal times for next year have not been finalized
yet for Laurel and Encinal school. We hope that the shuttle and yellow bus
service will be able to operate between Encinal and Laurel as they have this
past year. Currently, the Yellow
Bus runs everyday, Monday through
Friday, leaving Encinal after dismissal and
arriving Laurel 5-10 minutes later.
The Menlo Park
City Shuttle (White shuttle)
runs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, leaving Encinal and arriving Laurel 5-10 minutes later (NOTE: the
white shuttle does NOT run on Thursdays or on minimum
days).
Due to high
demand, riders will be assigned by lottery. We will collect names and
information of interested riders until Friday, June
20. The lottery will be
completed by the end of June and everyone who submitted their name will be
notified of their lottery number shortly
thereafter. A waitlist
will be maintained for those who are
not assigned seats on either the
shuttle or yellow bus. Incomplete and late entries will be added to
the end of the waitlist.
If you are
interested in having your child ride on
one of the Shuttles, please submit the email Form BY FRIDAY JUNE 20:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PROVIDED ALL INFORMATION - OTHERWISE YOU WILL
NOT BE ADDED TO THE LOTTERY. Contact: Darcy Leschly at dleschly(at)comcast.net.

| LE News |
We are celebrating the end of the school year -- and the end of an era -- with an issue that has something for everyone. From dinosaurs to peaches, from manners to saying goodbye, our last LE News of the year has it all.
|
| From the Health Office |
Before school ends, please remember to pick up any medication or supplies (EpiPen, TwiJet, Inhaler, Glucose meter, etc) that you have been storing in the office. Any medications that are not picked up will be discarded at a local police station. Please do NOT dump any expired medications in the garbage can or flush down the toilet at home or at school. Please bring medications to a pharmacy or police station for proper disposal.
If your child is likely to take medication at school next school year (for diabetic management, asthma management, seizure control, allergy control, ADHD, etc), we will need a new Parent and Doctor Authorization for Medication Administration form. You may pick up a new form from the office until the last school day, and bring the form with the medication when school starts.
|
| Lost and Found |
| Last
call to recover all of your lost jackets, sweaters, hats, lunchboxes,
and other assorted items from the lost and found rack in the Multi.
Even if you don't think you're missing anything, you may be surprised
to recognize a few items if you stop by and take a look. Everything
remaining after the last day of school will be donated.
|
| Found: Tent and a Tent Pole |
| A gray and white tent and a separate tent pole were found on the first grade yard after "Camp Readalot" last week. Please claim either of these in the school office if one or the other is yours.
|
| One More Newsletter |
The
last newsletter of the year will be sent out on Thursday, June 12, the
last day of school. The deadline for submitting articles
to the final newsletter is Monday, June 9.
Now would be a good time for any incoming families
to subscribe - we will have very few communications over the summer,
but they will pertain to the next school year. You can forward this
email to those who wish to subscribe, and they can use the "Join Our
Mailing List" link at the left.
If
you will not have any Laurel students in your family next year, you may
prefer to unsubscribe now from the newsletter. Just click on the
"Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of this newsletter.

| Laurel PTO Volunteers Needed |
We need several dynamic people to chair PTO committees next year. If you are interested in leading one of our great teams or if you enjoy putting together fun events, please consider volunteering for one of these positions. Co-chairs are welcome - any of these jobs can be shared, so enlist a friend to join you!
- Caring & Sharing (Ongoing) Help teach our children the importance of caring about and sharing with those in need. We need one or two Laurel representatives to co-chair this committee with their Encinal counterparts. Chairs will organize various drives throughout the year to collect and distribute items for families in need (holiday food boxes, school supplies, etc.)
- Holiday Boutique (Fall/Winter) This important fundraiser is held every year on the same day as the Winter Sing. Baked goods, plants and other donated items are sold, with 100% of proceeds going to the PTO. We need two co-chairs to lead the committee.
- Drop-off Patrol Organize volunteers to monitor morning curbside drop-off.
- Disaster Prep
Contact Leslie Burke, PTO President for 2008-2009, at PTO_VicePresident(at)laurelpto.org, with any questions or nominations as soon as possible.

| Laurel PTO Reimbursement |
Volunteers do so much to make Laurel great! Many of us have
expenses associated with that work, too. If you have a reimbursable
expense from this school year for a Laurel PTO event or project that
you haven't yet been reimbursed for, please turn in your pink "PTO
Reimbursement Request Form" with receipts attached to the Treasurer
File in the Community Room at Laurel before June 11.
If you aren't sure
whether your expense is reimbursable or have other questions, contact
your committee chair or PTO Treasurer Katie Ferrick at PTO_treasurer(at)laurelpto.org. If you would like to view and print this form right now, click here.

 The Menlo Park-Atherton
Education Foundation Board wants to thank Lois Giovacchini for her hard work as
the Executive Director of the MPAEF this past year. Lois' expertise and

the job of executive director which was new to us this year. The MPAEF
wishes her good fortune as she moves to the east coast with her family this
summer.
The MPAEF board is
beginning a search for a new executive director. If you are interested in
