Rules of the Road - A Traffic Safety Panel Discussion
THIS WEDNESDAY, THE 28TH!
  • Wednesday, January 28, 2009
  • 6:45 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Whether you DRIVE, CARPOOL, BIKE or WALK your children to school, this discussion is for you!  We are all concerned about traffic safety around our schools, and there are a number of factors that can make the area around Laurel School particularly hazardous.  The Laurel PTO has assembled an expert panel of traffic safety professionals from the local community to share with us the latest news and answer your questions regarding car and bike safety laws, right of way, hands-free cell phone laws, booster seat laws, and the Safe Routes to School Initiative.  Please join us in the Laurel School Multi on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 6:45 p.m. to have these questions and many others answered.

The Traffic Safety Panel will include:

  • Jerry Gruber, City Manager, Atherton
  • Duncan Jones, Director of Public Works, Atherton
  • Rene Baile, Transportation Engineer, Menlo Park
  • Representatives from the Atherton Police Department, Menlo Park Police Department and California Highway Patrol
Babysitting will be provided free of charge.  RSVP with the names and ages of  your child(ren) to becjackson( at )comcast.net by Tuesday, January 27, 2009.

Transporting our children safely to and from school is a top priority for all of us.  Please join us for this important discussion.

Kindergarten Priority Registration (Including Spanish Immersion)
  • February 2 to February 22, 2009
  • On January 29, 2009 at 7:00 p.m., a mandatory Parent Information Night for the Spanish Immersion Kindergarten is scheduled at the District Office.
For more information please go to the District web site at http://www.mpcsd.org/Kindergarten_reg.html.
Laurel Art and Science Fair
The Laurel Art & Science Fair will be held on Thursday, April 23rd from 9 to 11 am. Parent volunteers are needed to assist with student workshops at this very popular annual event. We need a number of parents for various workshops and are in particular need of a parent with a medical background to assist with the ABC's of Anatomy - ideally someone who would be willing to spearhead the workshop next year. Our current leader has graciously offered to run the workshop again this spring, even though she no longer has children at Laurel.

If you are interested in helping out, please contact Carolee Hazard at carolee1( at )yahoo.com or (650) 324-8019.
