Studies show that students who read, excel in school as well as life. Reports also reveal that when parents are involved with their child's education, students earn better grades and have a more positive attitude about school.  What better way to connect with your child in these two areas than at this year's Encinal/Laurel Book Fair?  Partner with us in encouraging the joy of reading while spending time with your child at school. It's a great way to connect your kids with books they want to read!   View the Book Fair schedule of events and browse through the books online at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/cptoolkit/publish/encinallaurel.

Visit the Book Fair when your child's class is there: Laurel schedule and  Encinal schedule.

Remember, gift certificates are a great way to help teachers build their classroom libraries.  To order, return the gift certificate to the office with your check.  All gift certificates may be picked up at the fair.

Morning Social - Stop by the Book Fair after drop-off for a cup of coffee and a sweet treat while you shop.  Coffee, juice and coffee cake each morning starting at 7:30 a.m.

Movie Night - Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Let your children watch Madagascar and eat pizza while you shop.

Encinal Parent Education Evening
"What is Differentiated Instruction & and How Does It Work?"
  • Tuesday, October 7th
  • 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Encinal Library
Your children experience the joys and challenges they face as individuals every day.  These differences can affect the way they learn in several ways.  That's where the District's focus on differentiated instruction can help.  Differentiated instruction (DI) is all about working with different learning styles, different levels of understanding, and different interests, all within the context of one group of students.  How can one teacher possibly engage and help a broad spectrum of children progress?  Lane Narvaez, co-author of the book Differentiated School: Making Revolutionary Changes in Teaching and Learning and DI coach for Laurel and Encinal, will share her insights with parents.
